EBF Collection: New Levels

Hey guys, I’m making a lot of progress on the new Adventure Story levels. Here’s some gifs. They’re pretty hard but should still be totally beatable unless you’re playing on Extreme mode. When Adventure Story is done, I’ll have to do a livestream of the whole game to see if Extreme mode is beatable… the hardest part isn’t the super powerful boss attacks, it’s the really weak attacks that surprise you and still kill you in one hit.

Adventure Story is the longest game in the EBF Collection, and it never got a sequel, so it seems fair to give it the most new content. Anyone trying to 100% it will definitely get a decent amount of playtime out of this game.

EBF Collection: Give me Pain

Hey guys, I’ve started working on new stuff for Adventure Story. Here’s the plan so far:

  • Controller support: should work with same controllers as Bullet Heaven 2, including Xbox 360, Xbone, PS4, and maybe others
  • Extreme difficulty: everything does 999 damage, progress is tracked on the level-select screen, but you get nothing for beating this
  • 4 new levels and 4 new bosses: one at the end of each world, unlocked for collecting everything – these are pretty hard
  • 6 new equips and higher level cap: to make the new content slightly more beatable
  • new boss rush level!

EBF Collection: Prototypes

The Epic Battle Fantasy Collection will include a folder of old prototypes and unused stuff. A lot of it was only published on DeviantArt, and nowhere else, so there’s sure to be plenty of people who haven’t seen it.

Either way, it’s a little look into how I learned to code and animate, and a chance to think about what might have been. Nothing too exciting, but there may be one or two things in there that I’ve never shared.

EBF Collection: Mechs and Apples

Hey guys, I’m almost finished Mecha Dress Up Game v2.

I completely remade the interface, and it almost feels like a new game.
A lot of sounds are new, because the old ones were painful. There’s a couple of new parts and backgrounds. An export to jpeg button. A bunch of pre-made mechs to give you ideas and help you find some cool color schemes. And a new soundtrack with 4 tracks!

EBF1 and 2 have sequels, so there’s not much I wanted to add there, and Brawl Royale is such a simple game that there isn’t much you can change. But Mecha Dress Up definitely had a lot of stuff I’ve wanted to add ever since I first published it.

In other news, Epic Games are suing Apple for having a monopoly on their devices, and not letting developers sell software directly without giving Apple a cut. I’m rather excited about this. No company should be able to dictate what you can install on your computer, and where you’re allowed to buy software from. PC operating systems have been open forever, but for some reason people think smartphones and tablets are an exception – they’re general-purpose computers and should be open just like PCs!

Oh, and I feel the same way about consoles too. They’re all general-purpose computers, and there’s no technical reason that exclusives should exist – only business reasons. When I was a kid, consoles could only play games specifically designed and programmed for that console – but that’s not been the case for a few console generations now. Oh well, at least we’ll always have illegal mods and emulators.

Anyway, if Epic gets better terms for developers and customers, or even just pushes the conversation in that direction, I’m all the way behind them. Let the legal battles begin.

Free your computer.

EBF Collection: Mecha Colors

Hey guys, I’m currently working on what will probably be the most time-consuming addition to the Epic Battle Fantasy Collection – adding color changing to Mecha Dress Up Game!

This is something I wanted to add to the game when it was first made, but it seemed like a lot of hassle to get working. Turns out it is indeed a lot of work, mainly because I need to specify which exact sections on each part change to which colors. It doesn’t help when a lot of the parts are animated.

The game’s been re-programmed in ActionScript 3, so this means it can finally use the right and middle mouse buttons to make navigation easier. For a many years, Flash could not use those buttons. I’m also gonna add a screenshot button, and a new soundtrack!

I’m really looking forward to seeing what people make in this, as Steam makes it incredibly easy to share screenshots.
