Your Fan Art in Matt’s Hidden Cats

Hey gamers!

If you recall, Matt’s Hidden Cats has collectable cards and other art to find in each level.
I’ve decided that this is a great place to include a bunch of fan art, too.

I’m making this post to give some information to anyone who would like a chance at having their art featured.

• I’d like to include a variety of art styles – but it has to be cartoony and family-friendly to fit with the vibe of the game.

• The art has to feature content specifically from Matt’s Hidden Cats – so the characters should appear in their new outfits, or other casual/office clothing.

• The characters’ office is never shown in the game, so you can imagine what it may look like, or you can show the characters inhabiting some of the worlds they’ve made.

• To make sure me or Ronja see your art, please post it on the EBF Discord fan art channel, or @ me on Twitter or BlueSky.

There’s already some art of the characters, but I’d love to include more art of the cats and levels.

So to help with that, I’ve made a big .zip file with reference images of the characters, levels, cats, dogs, monsters, and other stuff. (it contains some spoilers, but mostly stuff I’ve already shown)

There’s no deadline for this. I’ll probably keep adding art to the game even after it’s been released, but it would be nice to have a wide selection before then.

I’ll probably finish the game in 2025, buuuut it may need to launch in early 2026 as I’ve missed the deadline for the next Next Fest on Steam, and I may need more time for translations and other extras.

If you get featured, we’ll give you some Steam keys and credit you in the game.
(we haven’t reached out to the artists in the screenshot yet, so don’t worry if you’re one of them!)

I’ve started putting these stickers everywhere I go… and challenging people on social media to identify the locations.

Some of the locations look very similar to places in the game… so I could include a few of these photos to show where the inspirations came from… that could be another interesting collectible.

I’ll also look into options for selling these stickers as merch. Maybe people can send me more photos of hidden cats around the world…

Hidden Cats: Hints and Drawing

Hey everyone.
The various parts of Matt’s Hidden Cats are starting to come together and the game will soon resemble it’s final form.

I’ve revamped the hint system to be more fun and interesting:
• You can have up to 9 hints at once. (light bulbs)
• You get hints as you make progress, interact with stuff, or just wait a while.
• You can use either a small hint or a big one that just takes you straight to the goal.
• And there’s an option to increase or decrease the amount of hints you get.

So that should accommodate just about everyone – from people who want to rush, to people who are stubborn and want to use as little hints as possible. There’s also some strategy involved in how best to ration your supply, and you’ll never spend 30 minutes looking for that last item, unless you want to.

If you recall, you can customise the mouse cursor in this game, and there’s a lot of different options. I’ve given the pencil cursor the ability to draw – you can change colors, line thickness, and there’s even an undo key!

Obviously it’s not for everyone, but I’m sure some players will come up with creative uses for this.
Some of the other cursors also have special effects, but I’ll keep those secret for now.
