Steam Deck

Hey guys, Valve sent me a cool present – a free Steam Deck for testing my games!

I played EBF5 a bit and it runs well enough, but is not particularly smooth, performance-wise. Which shouldn’t be too surprising as it doesn’t run great on most PCs either. EBF3 has lower requirements and seems to run better.

But the bigger issue is that the EBF games are designed for a mouse, and I wouldn’t want to play them with the Steam Deck’s track pads, which are quite similar to what the Steam Controller had. Maybe people who have practised a lot with the track pads will become quite comfortable using them, but so far that’s not me. The Steam Deck also has a touch screen, which you can use for the EBF games, but it’s still a bit clunky, especially since you can’t see tooltips this way. Controller support for the games would have been ideal, but I think it may be too late to be worth the effort at this point.

Bullet Heaven 2, on the other hand, runs great. It’s got the occasional stutter like it would on any PC, but it runs at a nice 60fps most of the time, and the controls are very comfortable. I think personally I’ll be playing a lot of 2D shoot-em-ups and platformers on the Steam Deck.

Sadly, I only received the middle model, so I can’t try out the anti-glare screen on the most expensive version (and we don’t have any sun in the UK at the moment anyway). It would have been fun to compare it to the Nintendo Switch screen, which is impossible to see on a sunny day. The Steam Deck screen seems to be about an inch bigger, which is cool.

As for hand comfort, it’s not quite as nice as an Xbox 360 or Xbone controller, or the Hori Switch controllers, but it’s not too far off. But that probably also depends on your hands.

Anyway, that’s my review for now. I’m not allowed to say much more at the moment.

EBF5: Android Codes

Hey guys, I’ve learned how to give out Play Store codes for the In-App Purchases in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.

It’s a bit clunkier than Steam keys, because there’s a limit on how many I can give out, and the codes expire in one year (if they are not used), but otherwise it’s quite similar to Steam’s system.

So if you’ve given money to my Patreon, or have had some fanart featured, or are a translator or Discord moderator, or have otherwise contributed a lot to the community, and want some codes for yourself or for friends, please let me know.

Using the codes seems to be different on the Play Store website and in the app.
In the Play Store app, you can go into your account settings, then “Offers and Notifications”, then “Redeem Promo Code”.
On the website it’s easier. There’s a “Redeem” button in the main menu on the side.

The In-App Purchases should hopefully be unlocked next time you start up EBF5 (maybe you’ll have to press the “Restore Purchases” button in the game).

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 is live on Android!

Epic Battle Fantasy 5 is up for Early Access on the Google/Android Play Store!

Languages are temporarily disabled while we finish translations, but otherwise the game is 99.9% finished – there should only be a few obscure bugs left, and most languages should be finished in a week or two.

In-app purchases already work correctly. Even the Game Services achievements work!

Save files should persist as long as you don’t uninstall the app – make sure to always update over the existing version. (The current version is 1.15)

You can also transfer your PC save file by copying the contents of a backup .meow file into the password text box. (you’ll probably need to email the text to your other device)

With some luck the remaining stuff will be done in a few weeks, and I can start work on the iOS version.

Please tell your friends about the game!

EBF5: Bonus Rewards

Back to work. Trying to make adverts fun in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
This seems to be the most acceptable way of doing it – they’re totally optional but you get a +30% boost to your battle rewards if you watch them. And of course, you can pay once to get the +30% boost permanently, and never watch an ad again.

Overall, the EBF5 mobile version is almost done! Just gotta fix a few rare bugs and translate the small amount of new text.

Anyway, last month there was a problem with my Google account and my games could not be purchased on Android – this has been resolved!

If you didn’t already know, EBF1, Brawl Royale, and Mecha Dress Up Game, are available on Android.
