Fanart: Praetorian

Valdemaras made a 3D model of the Praetorian!
Looks like he’s just starting 3D modelling, but it’s already looking pretty cool. I wonder what else he’ll come up with in future.

Hello there friends and enemies :smirk:
First of all im not some art specialist in any field. Creating something with computer or by hand is just a hobby for me and ive been at it for years so naturally ive have developed some skills.
Model of Praetorian was made completely by me in a 3Dmodeling program, taking the original Praetorian which is Matts brainchild as a guideline but not trying to make a mirror copy in 3D. When i started making Praetorian i wasnt sure id pull it off as it was like third model i ever made. Those helmet things took like an eternity to make because boole function is still quite tricky to me. Again any boxy or not curvy enough parts of this model is just a result of me being not skilled enough in 3Dmodeling. That red thing on Praetorians head i saw in some image while i googled Praetorians images http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/epicbattlefantasy/images/a/af/MechaBR_MDUG.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/281?cb=20140811204502 so i thought it would be cool to add something like it. :hurray: Im not new to 3D maths as i made quite a few fractals but i only started practicing 3D modeling i the end of 2015 under influence of Psynaps.
As you may notice links to turtorials regarding lighting, scene setting and modeling techniques that i use are provided in descriptions below works that i submit to DeviantArt. So you can produce works like mine and even cooler ones if you have enough patience yourself 😉
All in all making this model took me days which i imagine skilled modeler would do in minutes, but it also been a very usefull experience as i got a lot of understanding in what i do wrong and what i should do right. Yes it would be awesome to make a realistic 3D battle scene animation from EBF but its a really time and computer resource consuming process 😀
In conclusion, one is not simply born a pro! One just creates more or less good looking art which creating he enjoys!!! :stars:

Hey, i know people probably thought about this before, but maybe you (talking to valdermaras) Could make a bunch of 3d models, and we could make like a 3D ebf4? It probably wouldn’t be that hard to replace just the models. I could probably do that. The hardest part would have to be the animations for the spells/attacks and the over-world. But really, i don’t think it would be that hard.

Nah, there are just way too many characters and outfits for them: Matt, Lance, Anna, Natz, 24 armors, 24 hats, 48 weapons. Then we have regular enemies: 6 kinds of idols, 3 kinds of bats, 6 elementals, 3-4 golems, about 10 bosses and 4-6 clay golems, and then robots and then sea creatures, and sand enemies, and Beholder and dragons and many many more. And all of them have animations.
Also keep in mind, this Praetorian right here is a beginner-level work. That’s too low of a level for EBF games, because their strongest point is artwork and animations, and variety. So just NOPE, forget it.

I’d like to point out that matts’ team is also an amateur level team matt even admitted it before but that doesn’t make them beginners and the way valdemaras deviantart page looks to me i doubt he’s a beginner like how you claim he is that’s not beginner-level work that’s in fact professional level but it’s not something you can use for a game that isn’t funded by a top-level game production company and EBFs’ strong point isn’t artwork and animation that’s like saying final fantasy VIIs’ strong point was 3D artwork and 3D animation EBFs’ strong point is the same as FFVII and FFVIII gameplay, characters, plot and general content.

Spells/attacks and other animations are actually the easiest parts of CG3D animations the models are the hardest part because of all the texture work and a bunch of other polishing works imagine yourself making a painting with an extremely-sharp oil-pen without making any lines just a bunch of dots anyone can make models as polished as this one the problem is the patience and mental fatigue most people have to use and get to make one a EBF4: 3D would probably take three years to make and it’ll still be filled with bugs with the small team matt has.

You’re clearly still way too inexperienced to be typing about how professional quality artwork is done until you decide to be a creator and actually create note worthy stuff then i suggest you don’t mention anything that involves creation and only type about things like how you have only ever used things other people made.

It looks like an old bomberman anime enemy it looked cooler when it had broader arms and a more torso-like torso and a more helmet-like helmet.

It looks a bit too stiff on the posture side, however these shading effects look like something I’d use for reference when drawing! Very sleek.
And what’s that crest on top of his head?! I don’t remember seeing that in the original.
Anyway, I have to admit this is a very original type of fan-addition to the gallery! Inspiring even.
