EBF5: Food

I made food! There’s quite a lot here, so some of them will probably become quest items instead of usable items. There’s a few things I’ll be doing differently with food this time:

  • MP probably won’t exist in EBF5, so no MP items.

  • Each character has their own stat-boosting items, so your team will be forever balanced.

  • More items will heal by percentage rather than a fixed amount, making them never become totally obsolete.

Can you guess what all the food items are? Which one is the tastiest?

I miss the mp, nothing like running out of mp in a battle because I never heal up. Besides, what would jungle idols do then?
Now I’m hungry though. These all look so tasty.

Hmmm… No MP….. Interesting… In fact, I like it! But I’l have to warn you, and you probably already know this, but if you fuck up whatever it is you’re thinking to replace the MP system, the whole game is going down and you’l have to go back to MP… No pressure though :3 I’ sure you can figure it out!

No MP? Very very interesting, everything looks great though! Glad to hear about percentage based stuff, really curious what all these items will do with no MP and since it’s percentage based now. Guessing there are a lot more fancy status items or stat boosting items now :yay:

Are you adding cooldowns for food items as well? Stat boost, coffee and some rare items made epic mode too easy I think, especially orange juice (if your adding something of the sort again)

    Row 1. Single heal

    Row 2. Multiheal

    Row 3. Percentage heal

    Row 4. Buffs

    Rows 5-9. Permanent stat boosters

Since there were only a few holiday items, maybe you could add holiday-themed food items or equipment from different holidays like New Years or Halloween.

I noticed there’s no hot sauce for the limit break meter anymore! Will the chili pepper be taking it’s place? :wut:

Hmmm. I’m gonna guess the first two rows are your basic heals, with maybe the first being flat values and the second percentage-based. Third row might be group heals, while the fourth looks like delicious buff-beverages.

Fifth row seems like maybe miscellaneous stuffs, like status removal and revives and probably something else too.

Six, seven and eight look like maybe they could be character specific stat-boosts, but the holiday-related candy in the final row leaves me unsure. Maybe Lance subsists on day-after discount candies? But that still doesn’t account for No-Legs.

Also, I like the idea of dropping MP. Growing MP pools quickly trivialize it as a resource, whereas cooldowns open additional design space to make impactful, non-spammable skills which aren’t quite limit breaks. I like this direction very much. (Also, the tastiest is still pizza, of course.)

Yeah, MP was almost pointless most of the time – and I was already doing cooldowns in a sense for skills like Unload.

        Cooldowns…? :wut:

        NOOOOOO

MY MAIN EBF4 STRATEGY IS RUINED

RUINNNNNEEEDDD  :scared: 😥 😡 :skull:

(I put every stat-boosting item I had into Matt until he completely surpassed everyone else. Then, I made him backup in every battle and allowed the enemies to kill the others, then spammed Revenge with Matt when he came in. 1 shotted every regular enemy, 2 shotted every “elite” or “giant” enemy (also most minibosses, though some take 3 or 4), and 5 or 6 shotted every boss. Because of the Blood Blade being non-elemental, and healing on physical attacks, it was equally effective against all enemies, and it also healed Matt to full health on every turn. Add on the autorevive pin, autoregen pin, and death resistance pin to make him almost immortal. And, since the death resistance pin also replaced the Blood Blade’s (non-existant) status with Doom, I was also able to easily kill enemies that summon a lot, (like wasps – those were very annoying before I got the dooming pin) with a single Swift Slash. INSANELY overpowered. 👿 )

without MP, I’ll lose my nemesis… (mage dogs) 😥
I prefer to have MP because MP is a typical game mechanic of RPGs.
In addition when there’s going to be cooldowns, is there also food that’s reducing the cooldown?
However, I think MP is a bit pointless, because the amount you have in EBF4 is a bit high, but in really long boss battles on epic difficult, you can easily run out of it. Anyways the game mechanics for MP came a bit short. I would really like to fight against a boss which is continuous leeching MP.
So I would really like to see MP in EBF5 again. I would welcome it to fight against enemies which debuff you that you can’t restore life/MP or game mechanics like the resistance to life/MP leeching or debuffs which increase the MP usage for example.
Well my suggestion because some people still want to have MP and some people not, is to make dynamic difficult (like only on hard and epic, MP is enabled) or 2 play modes (casual, classic).

I like the idea of replacing MP with cooldowns- that could make for some interesting tactics. Might make some people revise the HealMore spam strategy if you put a cooldown on it, for instance. Can’t wait to see how it turns out! :yay:

No mp but cooldowns uh, I hope that only applies to offensive skills, I mean, I can go 3-5 turns without using legend, unload, judgement or combo shot but then you have skills like healmore, protect, barrier, revive, dispel (on foes that like buffing themselves) and others depending on the enemies you’re fighting that are almost absolutely essential to your survival, I mean, I suppose food can take care of part of that but still…

MP replaced by cooldown?! That might make things more challenging. :stars: I see you’ve added quite an assortment of new foods like dragonfruit…

All 8 of the drinks are my favorite, but I’ve noticed that the last row all have holiday themes…? Planning on an Easter egg hunt, Matt?

No MP ? Weird. And the cooldown system  … it will be horrible on powerful but very useful spell like Revive, Heal More or Poison Gas (the single all-foe-targeted poison attack ^^).
But we trust you and EBF 5 will be a great game like it’s predecessors :yay:
And … eventually, if you need someone for a japanese translation of EBF 5 … :smirk:
So, Good luck and “Ja ne !” :yay:

Okay, so along the top we have: Apple, banana, pumpkin, pineapple, watermelon… the flip is that last one? Anyways, those top ones will likely be your base health restores, as the fruits have been in previous games.
Next row is raspberries, blueberries, somethingberries, grapes, tomato, chili pepper. The first four would, by my guess, heal the entire party, I have no idea what the point of tomato is unless it’s a throwing item, and the chili pepper… well, I’d guess it’s taking the place of the tobasco sauce from last game.
Popcorn, pretzel, chips/crisps depending on where you live, french fries/chips depending on where you live, burger, pizza. Um… were MP still in effect I’d guess these would be the dual-restoration items, but as it is… *shrug*
From that point downwards I haven’t got a clue, except that we seem to have a coffee and a higher-health upon rez coffee.

As a side note Matt, if there’s no MP, what’s going to be the power system?

Good observations. I’ll probably put a turn or two cooldown time on the strongest skills.

        Ah, thanks miter.

@Matt: Hmm… that’s pretty much going to null any requirement for skill management as well as completely and utterly eliminate any use for the default attack outside of very specific circumstances.
I mean, it COULD work, but I don’t think just sticking a cooldown time will preserve game balance quite as well unless it’s coupled with at least one other mechanic.

Donut, cake and fried chicken are the most delicious so far. But no ice cream? There are slimes made of ice cream but no ice cream as food?
