    Hi, just a suggestion: Would it be possible to fix the Buy button for the premium pack in ebf4? Right now, clicking it does nothing. Is the problem just a broken link?

    I’ve heard it’s available on kongregate and steam, but… :convenience:. I like playing on this website.

      Not much point in buying the web version now, the game will only work in browsers for a few more months.
      It’s probably something like an adblocker or browser settings that are interfering with the purchase screen though.

        Hi, I tried turning off Ad Blocker Plus and disabling my browser’s pop-up blocking settings; but still nothing happens when I click Buy.
        So I should buy the Steam version then? But how would I transfer my save files over?

            Thanks, I was able to find a group of .sol files that look like they should be my save data and made an extra copy.

            I was wondering if there’s a free version on steam to test this and make sure it works before upgrading to the premium version? I tried searching for it in the steam store and only saw the premium version. I’ve never used steam before.

            There’s no Steam demo, but you can easily get a refund if you’ve played it for less than two hours and owned it for less than 2 weeks. If you really want to try before you buy, you’ll have to pirate it.

            Hi, I’ve been busy this past week; but today I finally got around to buying the premium version on Steam. I tried to follow the instructions in that blog post. I opened the ebf4 application in Steam, started a new game, saved, and then quit. Then I searched my computer for where this file appears to be stored. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Epic Battle Fantasy 4. Then I deleted the file ebf4file1.meow, copied my own save files into the folder, and renamed all their extensions from .sol to .meow. Then I tried starting the ebf4 application again. Steam said my local save files were out of sync with the cloud and asked me to choose one of them; I selected the local files of course.

            Unfortunately, when I restarted the ebf4 application, it still shows only a single save file with playtime 00:00. I tried going back to the ebf4 folder and opening up the file called ErrorLog. It shows the following:
            STARTING EPIC BATTLE FANTASY 4!
            CATASTROPHIC MEOW FILE ERROR!!!
            MEOW FILE PROBABLY DAMAGED!
            (Falling back to Flash cookies instead.)

            So clearly I did this wrong. Could you clarify please?

            You don’t change the file-type of any files!
            You need to put the sol files into the folder where sol files are saved for EBF4 on Steam, not into the installation folder.
            When you searched for EBF4 sol files, you should have found a folder for the web version, and a folder for the Steam version.

            Hi, so I tried deleting all the .sol and .meow files in the steam folder and copying over again, this time leaving the .sol files unchanged; but it still doesn’t work. Here’s some more details though.

            The folder where I copied from has a very long address. It involves C:\Users\My Name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome … Shockwave Flash … chat.kongregate.com
            I’m confident this is the correct folder. It contains 5 files: ebf4autosave.sol, ebf4file1.sol, ebf4file2.sol, ebf4misc.sol, ebf4options.sol. This matches up with the fact that I have 2 ebf4 saves (+an autosave) on this website; and the Date modified on ebf4file2.sol matches up with the last time I saved on this website too.

            I’m confident the folder I’m copying to, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Epic Battle Fantasy 4, has to be correct too; or at least, I don’t see any other folder it could be. Searching “ebf”, “Epic”, “.sol” and “.meow” in the main steam folder doesn’t turn up any other results. When I installed the steam version and created the dummy save file with 00:00 playtime, this is where a new file appeared.

            When I try to start the ebf4 application after copying, 5 new files get created in the steam folder automatically: ebf4autosave.meow, ebf4file1.meow, ebf4file2.meow, ebf4misc.meow, ebf4options.meow. But I still see only the dummy save file when I click Continue in the main menu. And when I open the file ErrorLog in the steam folder, I still see the catastrophic meow file error message.

            Is there anything else I can try?

            “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Epic Battle Fantasy 4” is the installation folder.
            When the Steam version creates .sol files, they should go to another \AppData folder somewhere – that’s the folder you want to use. You want to put your .sol file in the folder with the dummy .sol file, not the dummy .meow file.

            Partial success. It’s strange…

            After searching for ebf4 in AppData, I found one more candidate folder:
            C:\Users\My Name\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\XYN3Q3Y2\localhost
            The folder contained a single save file EBF4file1.sol that matched yesterday’s date of my downloading Steam and creating the dummy save. Sounded promising, but then things got weird.

            The following does not work (i.e. when I start up the game, the only save file available is the dummy):
            – Deleting the dummy EBF4file1.sol and copying the real EBF4file1.sol and EBF4file2.sol into the folder
            – Renaming the real EBF4file1.sol and EBF4file2.sol to EBF4file2.sol and EBF4file3.sol respectively, then copying them both in
            – Renaming the real EBF4file1.sol to EBF4file2.sol and copying it in
            – Renaming the real EBF4file2.sol to EBF4file3.sol and copying it in

            The following does work:
            – Copying in the real EBF4file2.sol

            The dummy EBF4file1.sol by the way keeps resurrecting itself whenever I delete it

            So EBF4file2.sol transfer is a success, which is great, but I don’t really understand why EBF4file1.sol transfer doesn’t work. My first thought would be a name conflict with the dummy EBF4file1.sol; but that doesn’t explain why renaming it doesn’t work.

        Actually on some select sites there is an option to run the “old version of flash” now that it is no longer being supported so all of these games still work

    my game has been reset 5 times in ebf 5 after or before the factor’s final boss,last time i was fighting the bosss than ran because no more coffie and the reviver was dead and then i quit after saving,then came 3 hours later and guess what i lost my data again pls fix and send me back to where i was 😥 😡

    Hey Matt, would you mind putting a feature in EBF5 where you can save equipment sets, so you don’t have to re-equip stuff when going through certain areas? Or would that be too much trouble? It’s fine if if you don’t, but I think it would be convenient.

    hello, matt
    i love your games, i would purchase some of yours but i literally have no money (6$) and no phone for moneymaking apps and the like. so 2 questions,
    1. will EBF5 be avalible as a web game like the others (albeit after steam release) , not including some moves/maps/bosses /ect. but free(i know you said EBF 5 would cost money but all the others have a free version on kongregate )
    2. if this game has some sort of premium expansion such as EBF 4’s battle mountain (part of the steam one) on the web could that area/stuff be slowly unlocked by beating the game with all bosses on epic? that means i might be able to play those instead just watching youtube of it

    TL;DR: Thank you for making this game. I found it a long time ago, I had zero gaming experience at all, and barely had played even simple flash games. Loved it, but forgot the name. Met a guy, he tried to help me find it. Couldn’t. Promised him if we ever found it I would let him show me the wonders of computer gaming. We ended up getting married a couple years ago. Recently by total random luck and chance found the game again – EBF. I now owe my husband a promise I intend to keep. Thanks for making these games. I’ve only played one so far, but I intend to play them all because I loved the first one so much. You’ve got so much skill, and THANK YOU. SERIOUSLY.

    :yay: …Thank you! See, back when I was in an abusive relationship my senior year of high school I randomly found EBF on Newgrounds. I was looking for a simple game as a distraction from a recent spat my then boyfriend and I had been in and was trying to show him that I wasn’t “useless and stupid” because I “wasn’t smart enough” to play games with him. (Yes, I was young and stupid, I know. 🙁 ) When I found it, I tried it because it looked cute and simple. I ended up playing it for weeks because I loved it so much! I knew absolutely nothing about RPGs but became almost instantly addicted to it! A couple years later I tried to go back and find it, but couldn’t because I couldn’t remember the name, just the style of art and game play. I searched but to no avail. Sadface. 😥 I never really went any farther into computer games. A few years later I met a different guy well after the end of the previous abusive relationship, and as we were getting to know each other I let it slip that I used to play this RPG style game on Newgrounds that I absolutely adored but for the life of me couldn’t remember the name of! As soon as I said this, he became super excited and began ranting about how he loved gaming, but had lost some passion for it since his friends had all moved past RPGs and computer gaming in general. He really tried to help me find it, but I had so little to go on that we never ended up with any results. I told him if we ever found it I would try computer gaming with him, which made him super happy. Years passed, we married :love2: , life moved on. Today I hopped online randomly to look for something, found a different game I’d seen someone I like play on youtube, looked it up, found a website that sold it, decided to browse the site because I had some time to burn and I like exploring new hobbies. I’m exploring and I stumble across something called Epic Battle Fantasy 4. …Huh? But… It looks… Familiar… Did some research, found myself here… WHAT?! ❗ Well. I guess I get to tell my husband tonight when he gets home from work that he gets to show me his passion for computer gaming finally. xD And I’m going to start by spelling E B F out in bacon :bacon: .

    For anybody who has asked or will ask in the future, EBF4, BH2 etc will NOT be available to download for free (EBF3 MAY be possible through steam). The only way to download the game is by purchasing it (either through steam or through other services like humble bundle in which case EBF4 is DRM free). The only way to play it for free is to play it online through Kongregate, Armor Games, Newgrounds or whatever website the game is distributed on. You either buy the game and get all the content, or you play for free. You’re not gonna have the luxury of downloading the game for free. How else is Matt gonna make some money? Besides, $10 on Kongregate/$12 on steam isn’t that bad actually, especially when it’s on sale (up to 50% off).

    Just wanted to post to say I absolutely love your games. Played the hell out of 3 back when I had no money and was actually in the middle of moving! Played through it on normal then Epic and finally beat Akron. When 4 came out I marathoned it on kongregate even bought the premium on it and did the extra stuff. Recently I grabbed the game (EBF4) again from steam for the better quality and things and actually started the game from the beginning on EPIC, I am no longer going to play these on anything but epic Difficulty as it gives the best challenge and fun. I played Bullet heaven on newgrounds when it came out and loved it I want to buy 2 on steam but do not have the funds to currently so will be grabbing it when I can :). The only gripe I have with 4 is Anna not as a character but I am so used to just using Lance Natz and Matt that I pretty much neglect her entirely, now you are adding Nolegs as a playable character and that is going to be difficult for me to switch people out. Regardless I am curious what Nolegs will bring to the mix as a playable character and cannot wait for 5 to be released!. Sorry for the long comment just wanted to tell you how much your games have meant to me.

    The time when you accidentally delete your cookies and find that your saves of Normal, Hard, and Epic on EBF3 and EBF4 are gone. 😡 😡 😡 Then you realize this means you get to play both games more. :yay: :yay: :yay: :stars: :stars: :stars: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :love2: :love2: :love2: Speedrun and :skull: dies :skull: to a normal enemy after beating two bosses. 😡 😡 😡 Finds autosave :love2: :hurray: :yay: 12/10 would delete cookies, speedrun and die again.

    That reminds, need to get the extended version on steam.

      Lol what the fuck was wrong with me 4 years ago . Anyways eightemperor2000 is actually my old nick and when i wrote these dumb comments i was a 13 year old kiddo and i was really inspired by Matt to try and develop my own drawing style . So here i come 4 years later with much better english and my drawings being much better to thank Matt for inspiring me greatly and for filling my boring and overall sad days with joy back in 2013/2014.

    hey its me agine can you put even more stuff put 144 new items monsters armore hats fliars pets and new food and put my new monster that I came up with the dark new players make them the way as the new characters oh and also put some cool stuff like a minecraft ester egg make it by fighting zombies enderman skelotens square slimes and a mini boss the mini boss is herobrine make the real boss the ender dragon and a last ester egg that is slender man boss fight and put characters from the movie rio and rio 2 and make the good guys the players pets blus attack is him flying around and drop bombs on top of enemies and jewels well remember when the plane got all the birds in well when jewel flys in the fight the plane will come down and damage the enemies and pedro is the one that has a red head and a grey body make his attack by his song the song of his friend manie which is the yellow one anyways the song will stun the enemies and will make them not attack any of the players so that is usefull and manies attack is when they all where dancing and singin samba and the new characters of rio 2 well make them power full and the same thing pets and the bad guys make themblack with red eyes and when you defeat them they will become good guy and will be on your side put not the smuglers make them the real fighting boss and the good humans like linda tulio and the kid Fernando good and will attack the enemies and put carton characters better yet put all the cartoon characters from tv also put other video game characters make the bad guys bad but when you defeat them they will become good and they will be on your side oh and as in all the cartoon characters I mean from 2014 from 1980 and put creepypasta monsters as bad guys and put digimon to capture and pokemon to catch to and a haunted ship area put all that in the update and last but not lest put pleas see the gameplay of all video games serisoly that will be super mega super duper combo butt kiking awesome thing ever pleas pleas pleas put that in the game of epic battle fantasy 4 pleas I love that game so much pleas
