The rules on this page apply to for-profit fan-made content using the Epic Battle Fantasy characters. These rules don’t apply to fan-made content for personal-use, or content that’s being shared for free.
This page is written by Matt Roszak, and refers to the characters and IP of the Epic Battle Fantasy Games, Find Matt’s Cats, and other creations by me.
I’m assuming that most people reading this are individuals or very small business owners.
If you represent a large business, probably best to contact me first!

I allow artists to sell Epic Battle Fantasy merchandise products, as long as:
• All the art (writing, music, etc) must be yours, or you have permission to use it.
– For example: don’t rip graphics from my games, or trace them.
– And don’t sell other artists’ work without permission.
• The store listing must clearly mention that the product is unofficial or fan-made.
– Either in the title or first line of the description.
• Don’t include official branding, like a game’s logo or developer’s profile image.
– You can include a game’s title in your own font though.
• No generative AI can be used for artwork, writing or music.
• There’s currently no limits on batch sizes.
– some other IPs limit the quantity of items that can be mass-produced, but EBF is quite niche, and I don’t think I would mind anyway.
• Keep content roughly PG13.
– No strong swearing.
– Sexual content should be limited to skimpy clothing and playful flirting.
(For example: Bikinis at the beach)
– Violence should be cartoonish and not very detailed or realistic.
(Some of my older games go too far)
– Avoid political symbols unless they’re already featured prominently in recent games.
(For example, Jolly Roger, Pentagram, Iron Cross, are okay. No Swastikas please.)

Some additional notes about fan-made games:
• Don’t compete with me! Make something different.
– For example: Don’t try to make Epic Battle Fantasy 6.
• The merch rules still apply.
• If the game is releasing on a big platform (Steam, App Stores, etc), please contact me!
– Itch.io and Newgrounds are not big platforms.
Some notes about modding:
• Mods must be distributed for free without the original game files.
– Generally a patch file must be combined with a purchased copy of a game.
– Exception: Game files can be included if the game is completely free. (Epic Battle Fantasy 3)
• Modders can accept tips on Patreon, Ko-fi, Itch.io, or other platforms.
• The merch rules still apply.

I reserve the right to revoke the permission to sell a specific product at any time, at my discretion!
– These rules may be updated later if they don’t work well or if more situations come to mind.
