EBF5: Monoliths

Back to the original 3 monoliths. This time it takes a turn for them to charge up – but they will be stronger than ever. They also use a bigger variety of elements now, making them harder to defend against.

l came up with several thoughts, tho they m/l won’t be implemented & all let them hang here. Maybe would get some usages tho.

Magmalith – looks like cosmic, but more static & orange-ish lines, those reminds lava flows. Uses fire attacks (naturally), absorbs fire, bomb, might be somewhat vulnerable to ice, wind, water. Charged attack – fiery beam, which’s fair chance to berserk.
Frozenlith – uses lce attacks, and very vulnerable to fire. Absorbs ice, water, wind.
Woodenlith – vulnerable to fire, uses earth & poison attacks.
Chiplith – looks like giant chipset, that is common in tech-based enviornments. Uses electric attacks, absorbs electricity, vulnerable to water.
Psycholith – looks like pinkish plate with brain folds depicted on it. Uses telepathy, telekinesis, psychokinesis, thus may berserk, stun & levitate players. l didn’t recognize magenta-colored element, used by certain enemies (that’s probably Wind, but l may be mistaken. l thought generally Psychic/Psionic element is something, that would be nice to see. In EBF1 Screamer dealt few damage to robotic enemies, but didn’t get penalized by undead, so it could be Psychic element-based then).

Perhaps aforementioned things could be represented as, so to speak, Miniliths.

I’m a bit disappointed the flee animation for Cosmic Monolith doesn’t have it warping out.

If you make the Cosmic Monoliths mandatory, I will kill something. I hate mandatory Monoliths in EBF4.

I love the monoliths, they give some hard time to deal with. They were extremely hard in EBF3 and not that difficult in the fourth game. Hearing that the difficulty from game 3 coming back or even surprassed it makes me excited. I don’t worry about the spoilers, because when you are finished the game I’ll probably forget about the early enemies( I didn’t mean time here, enemy quantity or other stuff in general which might come in the future 🙂 ).
The animations looks nice, I like them, but the Undieing Monolith is gone and only these remains?

And here I was holding onto the shred of hope that you dropped these guys after EBF4…

I really like the monoliths, however I think there are two small things that could be improved in my opinion

The intro for the cosmic monolith should be it coming down to match with attack 1 rather than coming out of the ground.
It just seems to make more with the design of it.

For the Ancient monolith should be darker or more pronounced so it looks actually carved in.
Currently, the etches don’t really stand out as much as they did in EBF4.

Really liking how the game is coming so far though!

pls bring back air and undying monolith. add a mossy monolith too and pls for cosmic add an attack where it will float for a couple of turns and evade/ attack will increase but truth be told cosimc is epic but the other 2 are terrible i dont like the eyes on them and i liked EBF3’s design better but do keep floating stones for them and the flashing hiroglyphs and give cosmic Black hole but other then that they are perfect well take my idea into cosideration.

Well this is unfortunate, but I still wonder, with these enemies returning, will the regi’s from the first game appear again?

The main game will be entirely free, but there’ll some paid content for those who want to support the dev. Purchasing this is not necessary to complete the game or see the main storyline.

Always nice to get back to the classics, these monoliths are looking better than ever! I especially like the smaller rocks floating around them, and the illuminati sign on the Ancient Monolith was a nice touch :smirk:

Extremely disappointed in all of this except for the Cosmic Monoliths. The Cosmics are great, the rest not so much.

I also wish that Undying Monoliths would stay. Oh well.

Largely the art. I just vastly preferred the EBF3/EBF4 ones. They simply looked a bit more pretty and detailed. I suppose these do have a bit more of an ‘old’ look, which might be what you were going for, though. Cosmic Monoliths are shinier and have much more detail, and the runes can be clearly seen, so those are fine.

The charge attacks seem a bit boring as well. I’ve already had my fill of giant lasers. Cosmic Monoliths destroy the universe instead, which is rather preferrable after seeing lasers be overused so much.

It is true that the monoliths in the past games used huge lasers as charge attacks as well, though…

The floating rocks also seem oddly ‘static’ when the monoliths enter. They’re obviously not directly attached to the monolith, so I was hoping that they would act a bit differently in the animations (e.g. rather than rising up on entry directly in sync with the monolith, the monolith might pop up alone and about halfway through the rocks might start floating into place from the ground).

And finally, Attack1 of Cosmic Monoliths feels a bit disappointing, primarily its return to its initial location. All the other animations make it look as though it’s lodged quite deeply into the ground; Attack1 makes it look like they’re barely 2 inches into the ground and could be dislodged more easily than they really are.
          Magic could explain that though.

          —–

This is pretty much all about visuals, but hey, what else is there to comment on? The animation test doesn’t tell us much more than the appearance of everything and how much the players are hit.

Anyways, I think I’m done now.

yea pls add the stones floating down/ adding them as enymies the monolith summons.

I love the cosmic monoliths “hit 2” animation. It’s great how they just sort of flail around (even more than the other monoliths), almost like someone’s shaking them like a maraca. It’s really disjointed and is simultaneously completely appropriate and absolutely hilarious.
Aside from that though, they look even more terrifying than they used to. I’m scared :scared:

One note though: I’m slightly disappointed that the new monolith types aren’t making a return from EBF4, the undying and sky monoliths were cool additions to EBF4 with their own new flavor (although I’ll admit I missed the old types a bit)
Ah well, it’s your choice though, I’m happy to see the viking and cosmic monoliths returning for the main game.

I am hoping that the cosmic monoliths will still start the battle with a ‘charge’ buff on them so they can start turn 1 out of the gate with a doomsday.

Otherwise It could be trivial to avoid their super attacks by casting dispel or crush each time they ready it.

Also, did you give the cosmic monoliths that one teleport frag attack to make it so they are not completely negated if you siphon them? Clever.

I pity EBF Matt, he is terrified of those damned Cosmic Monoliths. And now they’re deadlier, he’s gonna have a heart attack.
